John Richmond was born in Manchester in 1960. He moved to London and began studying at Kingston University, where he graduated in 1982 and where he created a collection that he identifies with his name.
The brand's aesthetic is characterized by a mix of rock, punk and elegant elements, with a strong attention to detail and experimentation with fabrics and colors. His brand is internationally recognized and has been awarded on several occasions for his contribution to fashion, innovation and creativity.
The John Richmond brand continues its worldwide growth, thanks above all to scathing advertising campaigns. In 2003/2004 the brand's fame grew dramatically thanks to a "streetwear" collection aimed above all at young people and of which the best-selling pieces were certainly the low-waisted jeans with the wording "Rich". Furthermore, John Richmond is one of the top names in the Milanese fashion shows each year and in the various fashion weeks, internationally renowned models have paraded for him.
In 1995, Richmond begins to look at new possibilities for expansion abroad, and contacts the Italian manager Saverio Moschillo who offers him Falber Confezioni in Forlì for the production of his collections, as well as his distribution network. (Milan, Naples, Rome, Paris, Munich, Düsseldorf, London and New York).
John Richmond has managed to balance the wisdom of fashion with the love of music, above all for the stylistic "signs" of the punk movement as well as the gothic and dark ones: studs, leather, torn fabrics, the zippers, the black, the laced closures like those of the corsets.
The designer has dressed many music stars such as David Bowie, Madonna, Mick Jagger and George Michael, before starting to work as a freelance stylist for Emporio Armani, Joseph Tricot and Fiorucci.
The international rock scene has always inspired the English designer, with a street-chic and defiant style, often full of slogans. John Richmond's creativity embraces both the male and female spheres, with a pret-à-porter that mixes denim and sartorial sophistication: dresses, outerwear and suits are often the result of a mix of different materials, so as to make the contamination a distinctive element of the mark.
In 2017, in the relaunch, John Richmond created the new line for the little ones, John Richmond Jr, which made its debut at Pitti Bimbo with the autumn-winter 2017-2018 collection. Today the brand is back among the protagonists of the Milanese catwalks, confirming the "glam rock" attitude that made it famous.
